Learn to Cross Stitch
Counted cross stitch is very easy to learn. You only need to follow the design from a printed graph or pattern onto evenweave fabric (usually Aida). You will be using floss and creating crosses (X) on the fabric. Each symbol on the pattern represents one X on the fabric. Different symbols represent different colors of floss.
To start stitching, make sure you have the following:
* Pattern
* Evenweave fabric (usually Aida)
* Needle (size 24 for 14 count Aida and size 26 for any other fabric greater than 14 count).
* Scissors
Most people prefer to stitch on a 14 count Aida. First, finding the center of your chart by following the two arrows. One arrow will be in the top center and the other one in the middle left side of your chart. Follow these two arrows. Where they meet is your center stitch. Next, find the center of your fabric - fold it in half twice. The center will be at the intersection of the two folds.
The first method is to work a row of half stitches (////), then work back (\\) to complete the X. Use this method for most stitching. Make sure all stitches are crossed in the same direction and that they lay flat on your fabric.
A color might have only a few stitches and then another color starts. It is up to you if you want to end off and start again with another color or carry the thread along the back. I usually stitch all the same colors first (in one area) and then move to another color in the same area.
That is it! Very simple. Just follow the pattern and you will be creating a wonderful piece of art!

Stitch Floss Questions
How to keep DMC floss from bleeding while washing the aida cloth.?
I got a spot on a just finished cross stitch. It is done with black I am afraid it will bleed if I try to hand wash it. How can I keek it from doing this. Quick I need it done for a county fair entry.
Thanks for the help.
I had this happen to me once with black DMC, too. I tried washing it myself in cold water and ended up with a grey mess on my aida. I would take it to the cleaners first. They couldn't help me since I'd already washed it and set in the bleed. I now pretreat all my dark DMC threads(black, dark blues and reds) by soaking in cold water with vinegar and salt and drying them before I use them.
Question about Denim Embroidering?
OK, I bought this set to embroider some butterflies and flowers onto some jeans for my daughter. No laughing allowed.
The thing is I don't get it. I bought this set and it came with these white transfers that have all the design elements and floss. and Instructions. OK, I get that your supposed to stitch the floss.
What do you do? I'm not understanding. Am I supposed to cut these elements out of there sheets and iron it onto the jeans? If I do that the white is bound to show through when I finish the stitchin. From the picture it appears that it's just fabric underneath, no white backing. ???? I don't understand what I'm supposed to do. Any help would be appreciated. You can email me as well if You Need to. Thanks.
I'm supposed to iron these white
lol...thanks...haha..yea those directions..sheesh..
Cut out the transfer you want to use. Lay out the jeans and decide where you want the transfer to be. Iron the spot where you want the transfer to be so the jeans are warm and have no wrinkles. Lay the transfer face down on the jeans and place the iron on top if the transfer. Do not "iron" -- that is, do not move the iron back and forth. This may smear the transfer. "Press" instead. Pressing means putting the iron straight down on the transfer paper, letting it sit for a few seconds (not long enough to scorch the transfer paper), picking it up and laying it down again on another spot of the transfer (always supposing that the transfer is that big.)
The white washes out eventually.
